Stolen hearts and lowered heart risks, the bennies of pet adoption

In celebration of National Pet Day on April 11, cut your kitty some catnip, play frisbee with your dog, hug your hedgehog, bond with your bunny, and consider adoption. Pets offer companionship, unconditional love, and health benefits. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), it turns out that not only do pets steal our hearts, but they also contribute to overall cardiovascular health by lowering cortisol, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels. And here in Kessler Park, we love our pets!

I am looking for a forever home. Pick me! Pick me!

National Pet Day was founded in 2006 by Colleen Paige, animal welfare advocate and pet and family lifestyle expert, to celebrate the joys of pet ownership and bring attention to the ongoing needs of many animals of all kinds waiting in shelters to be adopted. She encouraged people who want purebred dogs and cats to contact rescue organizations instead of going to a breeder. “Don’t shop! Adopt!” has become the holiday motto.

Petfinder.com is a one-stop resource to view posts of animals in foster care, SPCA, Humane Society and other facilities, and private rescues in need of immediate adoption. Petco also partners with area rescue groups and showcases pet candidates. It’s a purrrfect month to adopt!
