Vandalism robs Peter to pay Paul

KNU’s Beautification Committee asks neighbors to keep an eye on our 19 maintained islands, medians & common grounds, and to report any suspicious activity. Pictured above is damage to one of the neighborhood fountains caused by blunt force. Last year, someone intentionally broke the water fill valve on this same fountain. Fixes cost money.

Maintenance of water features and other neighborhood installations that beautify our green spaces are estimated in the annual KNU budget. Major repairs and associated expenses due to vandalism rob Peter to pay Paul. In other words, funds appropriated for other operating expenses are re-directed to repair needs. Our slim contingency allocation does not cover the many unforeseen costs of vandalism, storm damage, safety issues and so forth…
